While most high schools have a contract with someone to take your senior photo for the yearbook that does not mean you cannot take photos elsewhere. You would do your yearbook photos with the school, but you typically are not obligated to buy them. Then you could choose to do your senior photos with a professional studio in order to do something that fits you and expresses a bit about who you are ~ whether that be an urban session, one with your sports attire, or in the park with your favorite pet.
